Voodoo - featuring the Medicine Bow
I've been aware of the Medicine Bow for a good while now after hearing their impressive demo a while back. Unfortunately line up changes meant they hadn't gigged too much of late and then, due to the dreaded work commitments, I missed their Tiger Lounge show. Therefore, I hadn't seen them until this gig but I went on to see them twice in weekend. This was the more alcohol fuelled show of the two, with the band hitting the stage quite late in the evening, but I always feel this sort of trashy, country punk sounds better with a bit of a whiskey soaked slur. Vocalist Stu's, voice suits their style ideally and he also contributes some great guitar parts. Impressive lead guitar and a solid rhythm section provides an ideal platform for Stu's obvious song writing talent. The songs are memorable and are executed with a swagger and an air of confidence which makes this band have that little something about them and the band has a really distinctive edge to their sound.
If I'm honest they were probably even better at the Satan's Hollow gig on the Sunday, but both were impressive performances and with a settled line up established we can look forward to a lot more from an already excellent band.
